Waypoints

  1. enfinium signed a 10-year supply agreement with A1 Recycling and Renewables for its West Yorkshire EfW facilities.

  2. A1 Recycling will supply unrecyclable waste from its Greater Manchester MRF to Ferrybridge and Skelton Grange.

  3. enfinium diverts around 2.7 million tonnes of waste from landfill annually, powering approximately 600,000 homes.

  4. The company operates five UK EfW sites, in West Yorkshire, Kent and Flintshire, with one under construction.

  5. The deal follows a recent fuel supply agreement with REMONDIS UK covering the same West Yorkshire facilities.

enfinium has signed a 10-year agreement under which A1 Recycling and Renewables will supply unrecyclable waste from its materials recovery facility in Greater Manchester to the Ferrybridge and Skelton Grange Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plants in West Yorkshire.

The contract locks in a long-term fuel stream for two of the operator's combustion lines while giving a Greater Manchester MRF a guaranteed outlet for residual output that cannot be recycled. enfinium frames the deal as a way to strengthen fuel supply, divert waste from landfill and generate electricity over the decade ahead.

Wayne Robertson, Chief Commercial & Strategy Officer at enfinium, said the agreement will provide a reliable outlet for unrecyclable waste from Greater Manchester while supporting continued generation at the company's West Yorkshire facilities. "We look forward to building on the agreement and exploring further opportunities to work together in the future," Robertson said.

What does this change for the waste stream?

The deal moves residual tonnage from a recovery facility in one region to combustion capacity in another, anchoring Ferrybridge and Skelton Grange with contracted feedstock through the mid-2030s. For A1 Recycling, the arrangement secures disposal capacity that underpins its own processing business.

Simon Ince, Managing Director of A1 Recycling and Renewables NW Ltd, said: "Having reliable and established energy from waste partners is essential to our operations, and this agreement provides us with the confidence to continue developing our business and supporting our customers."

A second supply deal in quick succession

The contract follows enfinium's recent fuel supply agreement with REMONDIS UK, which covers unrecyclable waste destined for the same West Yorkshire assets: Ferrybridge 1 and 2 and Skelton Grange. Back-to-back deals with two suppliers signal that the operator is consolidating feedstock for its Yorkshire fleet rather than relying on spot volumes.

enfinium operates five EfW sites across the UK, located in West Yorkshire, Kent and Flintshire, with a sixth facility under construction. Across the fleet, the company says it diverts around 2.7 million tonnes of waste from landfill each year and generates enough electricity to power approximately 600,000 homes.

The milestone to watch

The 10-year term of the A1 Recycling agreement sets the clock for tracking whether the promised tonnage flows from Greater Manchester to West Yorkshire at the contracted rate. The next developments to follow are the commissioning of enfinium's sixth site and any further supply agreements that extend the pattern set with REMONDIS UK and A1 Recycling.
