Waypoints

  1. Greyparrot's patent-pending OEE dashboard is initially available only to select customers with site-wide Analyzer installations.

  2. Analyzer units operate in recovery facilities in more than 20 countries and have passed one trillion waste detections.

  3. Greyparrot technology users include WM, Circular Services, Veolia, Biffa and FCC Environment.

Greyparrot has launched a patent-pending Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) dashboard for materials recovery facilities (MRFs) and plastics recovery facilities (PRFs), replacing spreadsheets and post-shift reconciliation with a continuously updated score built from live AI composition data.

The AI waste intelligence company describes the product as a new way to measure and improve OEE in recycling. It is initially available only to select Greyparrot Analyzer customers running a site-wide installation of the AI-camera system — a deliberate constraint that separates operators with full-line instrumentation from those with partial coverage.

The launch targets a specific measurement gap. Recovery facilities have traditionally calculated OEE from weighbridge tickets, downtime logs and periodic bale audits, often assembled from separate systems after the shift ends. Greyparrot's dashboard instead scores the three components of OEE — availability × performance × quality — shift by shift, across the facility, from live composition data.

On availability, the system tracks uptime against scheduled production time, surfacing unplanned downtime, jams and 'black belt' periods when the line runs empty. On performance, it compares actual throughput against design capacity, exposing bottleneck stages and shift-based tonnage variance. On quality, it monitors contamination and purity swings on every output stream — the metric that protects bale quality, offtake prices and customer contracts.

Greyparrot says every movement in the score breaks down into which loss occurred, on which line, on which shift, what it cost and what to do next. The OEE score updates continuously and sends an alert when a component falls outside its expected range. Operators can benchmark performance across shifts, lines and sites to see what needs fixing, who needs to act and the value of acting — while the shift is still running.

Mikela Druckman, co-founder and CEO of Greyparrot, framed the launch in industrial terms. "Recovery facilities are industrial plants, competing with virgin production of materials," she said.

"For the past seven years, we've listened closely to our customers and built from understanding what is happening on a single belt to seeing how an entire facility is performing," Druckman added. "Live OEE tracking brings recovery plants the same level of precision, immediacy and operational efficiency as any modern factory."

The dashboard builds on an installed base with scale. Greyparrot Analyzer units operate in recovery facilities across more than 20 countries and have passed one trillion waste detections, according to the company. TIME magazine named the Analyzer among the innovations set to change the world by unlocking waste intelligence in 2025.

Current users of Greyparrot technology include WM, Circular Services, Veolia, Biffa and FCC Environment.

Biffa has already put the continuous-data approach to work. Ian McSpirit, operational support manager – recycling at Biffa, said: "Our teams have never been short of operational expertise."

"What continuous data changes is how quickly that expertise can be pointed at the right problem – we can act on the actual cause of a loss on the same shift, rather than reconstructing it from different sources of information," McSpirit said.

The rollout's scope — restricted to site-wide Analyzer installations — defines the near-term milestone to watch: whether Greyparrot extends the OEE dashboard to partial-coverage sites, and whether operators convert same-shift loss detection into measurable gains in bale purity, throughput and offtake pricing.
