Inkoh Opens Fifth Biochar Site in Landquart With NGE Reactors and Cula Data Layer
Inkoh has commissioned its fifth biochar facility in Landquart, Switzerland, running three T:CRACKER® pyrolysis reactors from Next Generation Elements and a Cula Technologies data platform feeding Puro.earth carbon credit issuance from day one.
Waypoints
Inkoh opened its fifth biochar facility in Landquart, Switzerland, the company's first site built around NGE T:CRACKER® reactors.
The Landquart plant runs three T:CRACKER® pyrolysis reactors supplied by Next Generation Elements GmbH.
Cula Technologies data platform went live at first operational hour, covering biomass intake, bag labelling, moisture readings and weekly KPIs.
Plant data flows directly into the Puro.earth carbon removal registry for credit issuance and audit.
Next steps: integrate electricity, water and heat meters into the Cula platform to replace manually assembled emissions reports.
Inkoh has commissioned its fifth biochar facility in Landquart, Switzerland, running three T:CRACKER® pyrolysis reactors supplied by Next Generation Elements GmbH (NGE) and an operations data platform from Cula Technologies that feeds the Puro.earth carbon removal registry from the first operational hour.
What is the new Landquart facility?
The Landquart plant is Inkoh's first site built around NGE's T:CRACKER® hardware — modular pyrolysis units that heat biomass in the absence of oxygen to drive off syngas and yield a stable carbon-rich residue. Inkoh describes the process as energy-positive for its immediate environment, with recovered gases supplying process heat.
Inkoh operates as a subsidiary of Zindel, the Graubünden-headquartered construction group. It processes waste biomass into biochar sold into three markets:
- Low-CO2 concrete admixtures
- Agricultural substrates
- Animal feed additives
Named customers include Klark, Landi Schweiz, and a roster of Swiss municipal buyers.
How does the Cula data stack work?
Cula Technologies deployed its plant operations software at Landquart before first heat-up. Shift teams use the platform to log:
- Incoming biomass deliveries
- Big bag creation with on-site label printing
- Moisture measurements
- Weekly plant performance KPI dashboards
The same data set flows into Puro.earth for carbon removal credit issuance and is structured to be audit-ready, eliminating parallel spreadsheet workflows that have slowed biochar MRV elsewhere in the sector.
"Scaling a biochar operation means repeating the same plant five times, without five different ways of collecting data," Cula Technologies said in a published statement on the partnership.
The integration extended directly into commissioning. Cula reported that machine-level telemetry from all three T-Crackers was available inside its platform from the first operational hour, enabling NGE's engineers to tune the plant using the same datasets that later flow into compliance reporting.
"That is the point: the data layer is not something you bolt on once a plant runs stable, it is how you get it stable," Cula added.
Why standardize at site five?
Inkoh's earlier four biochar facilities predate the NGE partnership. Landquart now functions as the reference design for future rollouts, both for reactor configuration and for the Cula data layer.
The standardization push has a direct revenue implication. Biochar producers rely on registry-issued carbon removal credits — sold as voluntary corporate procurement or under compliance schemes — for a meaningful share of project economics. Audit-ready, meter-ready data pipelines shorten the gap between first heat-up and first credit issuance, a metric operators and offtakers track closely.
What comes next at Landquart?
Inkoh's operations team will integrate the site's electricity, water, and heat meters into the Cula platform over the coming months. Meter-level feeds will replace the manually assembled emissions and efficiency reports the company has historically used at submission time, which the team expects to reduce reconciliation work at each Puro.earth filing cycle.
The external milestone to watch is the first carbon removal credit issuance from Landquart under the Puro.earth registry. That issuance will be the first external test of whether the integrated NGE-Cula-Puro pipeline holds up under third-party audit — and will set the operational template Inkoh carries into a sixth site.
