Waypoints

  1. Reverion closed a $175 million Series B led by Kembara (Mundi Ventures).

  2. New funding builds a German megafactory raising annual capacity tenfold to 250 MW.

  3. Solid oxide systems hit 74.2% electrical efficiency while capturing pure biogenic CO2.

  4. Commercial pipeline exceeds $2 billion across biogas and data center markets.

  5. Seven units operate in the field; unit capacity upgraded to 500 kW; headcount to grow from 200 toward 1,000.

Reverion has closed a $175 million Series B round to lift annual production capacity tenfold to 250 megawatts, anchoring a commercial pipeline the German deeptech firm values at more than $2 billion across biogas and data center markets.

Kembara, a deeptech scale-up fund managed by Mundi Ventures, led the round. New investors Allianz, KfW Capital, Aurum Impact and Carbon Equity participated alongside existing backers. The capital will primarily fund a new manufacturing facility in Germany.

What does the technology do?

Reverion builds containerized solid oxide power plants that convert biogas or renewable natural gas into electricity electrochemically, without combustion. The systems run at 74.2% electrical efficiency in live customer deployments, according to the company, and capture pure, uncombusted biogenic CO2 for commercial utilization or permanent geological storage — rendering the power generation carbon-negative.

The solid oxide system is reversible. During periods of excess power generation, it can switch to electrolysis mode, producing green hydrogen or synthetic methane and selling grid balancing services.

Seven commercial units currently operate in the field. Individual plant capacities have been upgraded to 500 kW.

Who is buying?

The round reflects rising commercial interest from hyperscalers and energy-intensive data center operators facing grid capacity constraints and long interconnection queues. By tapping existing gas network infrastructure, Reverion lets off-grid industrial users generate firm, carbon-negative power on-site without waiting for local grid upgrades.

"Solar and wind give us clean energy, but only when the weather cooperates. What the world needs is clean power on tap," said Stephan Herrmann, CEO and co-founder of Reverion.

"By closing this Series B, we are laying the foundation for industrial mass production. We are building the dispatchable, carbon-negative engine that allows grids and heavy industry to run 100% clean," Herrmann said.

What happens next?

The company plans to grow headcount from 200 to as many as 1,000 employees as it prepares for international deliveries. The milestone to watch: commissioning of the German megafactory and whether the 250 MW of annual capacity converts the $2 billion pipeline into contracted, operating carbon-negative generation.
