Industrial Decarbonization
Terraton Banks 97,240 Tons of CDR Offtakes, First Isometric Credits
Terraton has secured offtakes for up to 97,240 tons of carbon removal, issued its first Isometric credits at a Kenyan biochar plant, and lined up $1.5M from HSBC Ventures.

Waypoints
Terraton signed purchase agreements for up to 97,240 metric tons of CDR with Climeworks, Climate Impact Partners, Carbonfuture, Terraset, and Coca-Cola.
Registry Isometric issued Terraton's first certified carbon removal credits for the EcoFix facility in Nanyuki, Kenya.
A $1.5 million debt facility from HSBC Ventures supports near-term site development; a $25 million pooled vehicle would fund about 20 facilities.
EcoFix took 14 months from investment decision to credit issuance; Terraton targets ten months for future standardized sites.
Terraton has a second Kenyan facility commissioning in Sagana plus 58 additional projects in its pipeline.
Terraton has locked in purchase agreements for up to 97,240 metric tons of carbon dioxide removal, and the biochar operator just received its first certified carbon removal credits from registry Isometric for its EcoFix facility in Nanyuki, Kenya.
The buyer syndicate spans some of the most active names in the CDR market: Climeworks Solutions, Climate Impact Partners, Carbonfuture, Terraset, and The Coca-Cola Company. The material stream behind the credits is agricultural residue — waste nut shells from existing processing operations, converted to biochar at a purpose-built facility without disrupting primary production.
Terraton handled site design, project financing, and hardware installation at EcoFix. Smart facility sensors feed operational data straight into Offstream's digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) platform, which transmits it directly to Isometric.
In short: the credits come with an automated audit trail, not a paperwork chase.
Who bought what?
The commercial split shows how buyers are blending committed tonnage with reserved volumes from future sites:
- Climeworks Solutions: 2,000 tons committed from EcoFix, plus 14,000 tons reserved from future facilities
- Climate Impact Partners: 3,000 tons committed, 31,500 tons reserved
- Terraset: a seven-year offtake for up to 14,000 tons
- Carbonfuture: 32,500 tons to be brought to market through 2031
- The Coca-Cola Company: 240 tons purchased via carbon platform CUR8
The reserved volumes dwarf the committed tons, which tells you the syndicate is pricing in Terraton's build-out, not just its one operating plant.
Can the model scale?
EcoFix ran a 14-month development cycle from investment decision to credit issuance. Terraton says standardized facility designs, common operating procedures, and automated data collection will compress future timelines to ten months.
The pipeline is already moving. A second Kenyan facility in Sagana is undergoing commissioning in partnership with Tupande, the Kenyan brand of One Acre Fund. Beyond that, Terraton holds 28 executed MOUs and has more than 30 additional sites under evaluation across Africa, South America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia — every one built to the same standardized engineering template as EcoFix.
That's 58 additional projects in the global pipeline against one facility currently issuing credits.
How is the build-out financed?
Terraton secured $1.5 million in debt financing from HSBC Ventures to support immediate site development. The bigger instrument is still coming: a $25 million pooled financing vehicle designed to underwrite roughly 20 standardized biochar facilities as a single portfolio across multiple operating jurisdictions.
Pooling matters here. Underwriting 20 identical facilities as one portfolio, rather than negotiating each project separately, is the financing move that separates a repeatable industrial platform from a string of bespoke projects.
What decides what happens next?
Watch the Sagana commissioning. If the second facility hits the ten-month cycle and delivers Isometric-grade data, the reserved tonnage in these offtakes — the bulk of the 97,240 tons — starts converting into delivered credits. The closing of the $25 million pooled vehicle will then tell you whether the capital side believes the template too.
